Dignity Action Day 2018

DIGNITY ACTION DAY 2018

At Culliford we always support national Dignity Action Day on 1 February. Our emphasis is on always providing the best quality of care and having the well-being and happiness of residents at the heart of everything we do.

Dignity Action Day is a day which we support in a number of ways.

Increasing awareness

It is a time when we can think more closely about what dignity means to us. We are encouraging our staff and visitors to Culliford House to pause for a moment at our Dignity Tree and think about this. There are green leaves available next to the tree throughout February, so people can write their comments and hang them on the tree.

Some dignity meanings already given are:

“treat every resident as you would want your parent treated”

“being given respect at all times, treat people as you would like to be treated”

Everyone is welcome to join us for high tea on Dignity Action Day along with entertainment from 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Dignity Action Day gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care

Chtistmas Festivities at Culliford House

Christmas is a very special time for our residents and many look forward to gathering with loved ones to enjoy the festive period.

We fully embrace the Christmas spirit at Culliford making sure all have a fabulous time. We hosted our annual Christmas Tea on the 3rd and a lovely Christmas Fayre on 16th December. We invited members of the community to join in with our residents and celebrate. We were fortunate to have many visitors and lots of support.

We also enjoyed a visit to York Road Nursery on the 6th December where children sang a variety of Christmas carols and performed a heart-warming nativity play. Residents were also treated to some Christmas stockings filled with chocolate goodies which the children gave out along with a Christmas card.

Allen Knott from the local church also visited and entertained us, getting us all singing, dancing and toe-tapping along to some festive favourites and gave some bible excerpts to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

Owl Visit at Culliford

Home Manager, Suzanne Jackson said: “The residents really enjoyed their furry visitors, animals are always popular visitors and it’s great to see them up close. We knew that having  owls here at Cilliford would be great fun and it was a great activity for some of the people who may not be able to get out and about as much.”

Dignity Action – Arty Dancing Party October 2017

Our fifth art exhibition took place at Culliford House, in October, and featured the work of the Connections Project, an art group made up of the care home’s residents.

The exhibition included paintings, drawings and prints made by the residents and is the fifth exhibition the group has held since its formation along with a bit of sparkle and dance.

Bridget Townsend, an artist and co-ordinator of the Connection Project, said the art group has helped the residents connect with the community.

June, a resident who is involved with the group, said it is very popular with the care homes’ residents.

She added: “It is very good. I am just getting into it, everyone loves it. I got drawn into it, but I do a bit of everything.”

Culliford House prides itself on keeping residents busy with hobbies and other activities. Jeanette A’Court, quality manager at Culliford House, said: “We have been working with Bridget for four years. We have wanted to connect with the community so that the care home can feel like they are part of it. Every year we go forward  and when people come into care we make sure we cater to their hobbies and anything they want to try. We say life is for living and living well.”

We raised  £85 in the raffle- half of which will go to the ‘Dignity in Care Action Campaign’  and half will go towards the new activities at Culliford House. Thanks to all who came. It was smashing and such a lovely event for the community and residents.
